3CIRCLE SOLUTIONS (FORMERLY ADP)
AND THE APOLLONIUS’S THEOREM
As self-described software geeks, we’re enamored with mathematical equations and the meanings behind them, and it just so happens there’s an equation that aligns symbolically with our name.
Around 200 BC a Greek geometer and astronomer identified and solved a mathematical problem later named after him—Apollonius’s Theorem. The problem was to construct circles that are tangent to three given circles in a plane.
As centuries went by, other mathematicians tackled the problem. Around 1900, it was determined that if three given circles are tangent at the same point, then any circle tangent at the same point is a solution. If any of the given circles are identical, there are infinite solutions.
